The SPARK project (Supporting the Penitentiary System Advancement through Reflection and Knowledge about Linguistic and Cultural Diversity) is an international initiative funded by the Erasmus+ KA220-HED program – Cooperation Partnerships in Higher Education.
SPARK was created in response to the need to:
- Overcome linguistic and cultural barriers that arise in prison settings, where people with different histories, languages, and backgrounds coexist.
- Promote collaborative and inclusive methodologies in educational, pedagogical, and mediation work within settings of deprivation of liberty.
- Build relationships of trust and dialogue among staff, students, institutions, and inmates to improve the quality of educational and social reintegration programs.
Our University Prison Center contributes to this project by bringing expertise in academic education within prisons, intercultural pedagogy, and communication dynamics in prison settings.
