Climate Conferences

The University of Genoa is included among the organizations accredited to participate as an observer at the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP).

Participation in COPs:

  • COP26 (2021): UniGe participated as an accredited observer, highlighting the importance of universities’ role in the fight against climate change.
  • COP27 (2022): UniGe participated in and co-organized three side events (read article):
    - “The role of universities in supporting institutions toward net-zero emissions.”​
    - “Universities as a reservoir of solutions: leveraging our local and global networks for innovation.”
    - “Global citizenship education and resilience: strengthening the sustainability of territories through global citizenship”. ​
  • COP28 (2023)UniGe was among the organizers of three side events and participated in a fourth: ​
    - “The role of universities in the decarbonization of urban areas”. ​
    - “Decarbonization Ecosystems: The Impact of University Partnerships”.​
    - “A Regenerative Blue Economy as a Means to Harmonize Climate Action: a post-2030 framework beyond sustainability”.​

  • COP29 (2024): UniGe participated in the side event:
    - “Universities and Young People in Education, Mitigation, and Adaptation for Climate Initiatives”
  • COP30 (2025): UniGe co-organized an event at the Italian Pavilion and participated in two other events: one organized by MASE—the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security—and UN-Habitat at the Cities and Regions Hub, and another organized by the UN Global Compact Network Italy and RemTech Expo:
