Unigeco

Unigeco is a student association of the University of Genova, founded in 2019 by a group of students from several courses, interested in sustainability. Unigeco purpose is to promote and facilitate sustainability practices at the University, relying on improvement proposals and awareness-raising activities.

We are university students and together we want to persuade people to change small daily habits that can generate a big change. Each of us wants to face his own dose of anxiety for the fate of the planet by committing himself, inspiring the development of critical thinking and a common conscience.

Since 2019, Unigeco has been involved in many activities, including:

UniGe’s commitment to the climate emergency declaration, a document signed in 2019 in which the University pledges to reduce its environmental impact by 2050
Free water dispensers and bottles for incoming students
Sustainable mobility, particularly through active participation in the PRINCE project, voicing our needs to improve sustainable mobility, and contributing to identifying actions in support of the student community within UniGe's University-House Mobility Plan
Sustainable canteens, participating in discussions with UniGe and Aliseo to request student-friendly and more sustainable menus, collaborating in awareness-raising initiatives like Green Food Week, and advocating for less waste, including the collection of surplus food in collaboration with the Rete Ricibo
Awareness-raising meetings and actions on environmental sustainability, organized and promoted either independently or with UniGe and other local actors
Sustainability in UniGe courses, including the creation of a transversal sustainability course worth 1 CFU (credit) and other cross-disciplinary initiatives open to the entire student community

Since 2023, Unigeco has also become part of the Student Community Working Group of the Network of Universities for Sustainable Development.
