LIFE REEForest

The brown algae marine forest, especially of the Cystoesira compex, is the most valuable and underated habitat of the Mediterranean sea. They play an important role for the marine biodiversity, giving shelter and nourishment to a lot of species: however, marine forests are rapidly disapearing thanks to the anthropic impact and to the climatic crisis.

The LIFEREEFOREST project, capitalizes on the positive outcomes achieved in the previous project: LIFE (ROC-POP), and aims to better the preservation measurments and the sustainable restoration techniques of spaces previously populated by brown algae forests, with the realization of efficient techineques and protocols in all the Mediterranean sea.

The "Laboratorio di Ecologia del Benthos" researchers of the earth scienze department of Genova's University will partecipate to the project to restore the Cystoesira forests along the protected marine area of the island of Bergeggi, after been mapped and studies.
