Home-University Travel Plan

To support and encourage sustainable mobility among the academic community, UniGe has approved the Home–University Travel Plan in 2024. The first version was adopted in 2022 (see here) and the document was drafted by the Mobility Manager Ilaria Delponte and the Unige Sostenibile work group, with the leadership of the Vice-Rector for Sustainability Adriana Del Borghi. The completion of the initiatives outlined in the PSCU 2024 is expected to result in a reduction of CO₂ emissions generated by the mobility habits of approximately 12,000 UniGe members.

PSCU 2024 is based on the results of a survey on home-to-university travel habits and the academic community’s willingness to change their travel habits (2,200 respondents including students, teaching staff, and technical-administrative personnel from both the Genoa campuses and branch locations), as well as on the very positive monitoring results regarding completed and ongoing actions as planned in PSCU 2022.

The Home–University Travel Plan sets out a package of 10 initiatives for the next two years, covering all intervention areas (discouraging private car use, promoting local public transport, reducing mobility demand, and supporting cycling and walking):

  1. Installation of charging stations for e-bikes
  2. Signing of bike-sharing and bike station agreements
  3. Collaboration and support for the CUS project, “all'Università...pedalando” (to university...by bike)
  4. Implementation of incentives for the use of public transport
  5. Encouraging the use of remote working
  6. Monitoring of internal parking facilities
  7. University MaaS test
  8. Drafting of Accessibility Guide
  9. Awareness-raising and events
  10. Mobility Management course
