New project and new ambition: the Revel Sailing Team presents the Moth prototype with which it will participate in the Sumoth Challenge 2026
On December 11, 2025, at the University Campus of La Spezia, the new prototype of the Revel Sailing Team university association was presented. For three years, the association has been committed to the research and development of sailing boats that have the lowest possible environmental impact.
The future of the Revel Sailing Team: from the tradition of skiffs to the challenge of foils
The Revel Sailing Team presentation event marked an important turning point for UniGe's nautical project. Tommaso Cecchini reviewed the successes that characterized the last season, focusing in particular on the prestigious podiums achieved with the R3, Corsara, and Alba class skiffs, before turning the team's attention to the innovative world of foils.
Between refit and technological innovation
The technical value of the work carried out was clearly evident in the speech given by Pietro List, head of the shore team department. List emphasized the complex refit operations carried out on the two boats, which allowed the hulls to reach their maximum potential during last October's competitions.
The team is already looking ahead to 2026: Leonardo Bucci, head of the project department, revealed details of the Sumoth Challenge, an international competition that will see the world's leading universities compete in Malcesine, on Lake Garda, in June 2026.
On the production front, Michele Luisoni, head of the shipyard department, illustrated the complex technical steps involved in building a Moth.
Future goals
In addition to the technical component, the success of the project will depend on rigorous workflow management.
The presentation culminated with the screening of renderings of the new boat. With the launch scheduled for next spring, the Revel Sailing Team is officially preparing to set sail on new waters.
