In January 2024, the GreenStorm project was launched, funded under the JPI Urban Europe program (Driving Urban Transition 2022 call).
Just over a year after the start of the project, a series of data representing future climate conditions was produced, on a time scale suitable for stormwater simulations.
In September 2024, GreenStorm conducted climate chamber experiments at the Sense-City facility in Champs-sur Marne (France) to better understand the hydrological and thermal performance of natural stormwater management solutions (NBS) and the physiological response of vegetation during extreme weather events. In June 2025, a second series of climate simulations was carried out to consolidate and expand the analysis.
It is essential that nature-based solutions for stormwater management also meet urban technical requirements and the expectations of local residents. This challenge is being addressed within GreenStorm through a series of co-creation workshops between researchers and partner cities.
The GreenStorm mid-term event took place in Athens from June 25 to 27, 2025, at the Conference Center of the Agricultural University of Athens. During the meeting, the scientific results achieved by the various project activities (both completed and ongoing) were presented, and several in-depth workshops and site visits were conducted. UniGe took part in the event and contributed to the development of the workshop on the elaboration of scenarios for the implementation of NBS on an urban scale.
