VALOR and the Liguria Region are in the running for European recognition for their SERR initiatives

On March 26, the award ceremony for the 2025 European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) took place at Europa Experience in Rome. This annual event is dedicated to promoting sustainable practices and raising environmental awareness across Europe, and this year focused on the topic of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).

Among the highlights of the day was the cross-border VALOR project, developed under the European IT-FR Maritime Program 2021-2027, led by the Liguria Region’s Directorate General for the Environment, which, together with Liguria Ricerche, coordinated the scientific partners, including the University of Genoa, the University of Pisa, and the University of Nice-Côte d’Azur. The VALOR project aims to develop concrete solutions for the reuse, recycling, and efficient recovery of raw materials contained in electronic waste. Among its key actions is the use of advanced technologies for the recovery of so-called critical raw materials, which are increasingly strategic for the circular economy.

With the VALOR project’s nomination as one of the five finalists for the European award on SERR actions in Brussels, Liguria reaffirms its position as one of the most active regions in Europe in the fight against waste and the promotion of innovative circular economy models.
